Borehole Drilling in Central African Republic

The Central African Republic (CAR) has a population of 5.2 million people. Of this population, more than 580,000 are internally displaced and 606,000 live as refugees outside the country. Conflict in the country since 2012 has hindered its development, especially in the WASH sector. Only 60% of the population has access to a protected source of water for drinking. In its efforts to address the WASH crisis in CAR, Aptech has partnered with the humanitarian sector by drilling boreholes for community water supply. Aptech’s expert drilling team has drilled boreholes all across the country, including in Ngoukomba, Begoua, Ndele, Paoua, and Bangui. Its efforts are bringing safe drinking water to communities all across the country. Access to water is critical for public health, but it also catalyzes the development of other sectors including education, industry, and trade. Having clean water gives families the means to avoid many diseases. Waterborne diseases can take its toll on communities, especially for children where diarrhea is one of the main causes of death for children under the age of five. The benefits of clean water in a community is also felt on deeper levels, especially when considering gender issues. The
burden of fetching water often falls on women and girls, and when less time is spent fetching water, there is more time for activities such as attending school. This can lead to rises in literacy rate. Aptech is committed to joining humanitarian aid organizations in their effort to help CAR reach the UN Sustainable Development Goal #6 of clean water and sanitation for all its people.
