Aptech Africa Ltd recently completed the construction of a water supply improvement project in Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement funded by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees. This project was under the integrated WASH Program in Rwamwanja Refugee settlement and Host Community under the R-WASH program water supply.
The project is located in Rwamwanja Refugee settlement in Kawenge District. The site was selected as a result of water scarcity in the area and inadequate water access for communities including hospitals, schools and homes. 240,000 refugees and the host community are beneficiaries of this project. Adequate water supply to hospitals, schools and businesses will greatly improve the community’s livelihood.
This project included the construction of two 40 cubic meter sumps completely plumbed, dwarf walls with a 108.9m3 galvanized steel tank, the fencing and landscaping of four sites, construction of two Generator and pump houses, two Guard houses, 2 stance VIP latrines and an eco-San toilet. The project involved construction of 2 concrete water retention structures. The project presented Aptech will many challenges including impassable road networks and heavy rains interfering with the work process. Thanks to Aptech Africa’s efforts, communities within Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement are now benefitting from increased access to water.
