Aptech Uganda Attends UNCDF Project Dealroom

Aptech Africa’s Financial Director, Abdul Mugalu, and Director of Business Development, Laura Corcoran, attended the Project Dealroom hosted by UNCDF at Energy Mkutano on September 21st, 2021. This conference was designed to bring actors from all sides of company financing together for progress towards transaction closure.

Across the renewable energy industry in Uganda, there is a census that financial and non-financial support is needed to catalyze access to finance. Contributing factors include a lack of funding options, sub-sectoral risk-reward metrics, and lack of connection between financers and businesses seeking funding.

This event was in alignment with the National Development Plan III of Uganda which focuses on the objectives of increasing electricity access and utilization, increasing electricity generation capacity, and increasing the adoption and use of clean energy.

The event consisted of preliminary engagement with financers, matchmaking based on projects and financer’s focus, transactional commitments, and knowledge sharing across the entire sector. Aptech hopes to continue the cultivate the connections it made during this event to access finance and thereby work towards its mission of bringing clean electricity and water to people all across Africa.
