Transforming Healthcare in Bossangoa with a 70kWp Solar Power System

Aptech Africa successfully designed, supplied, installed, and commissioned a 70.8kWp solar photovoltaic system at the Bossangoa Regional Hospital, significantly improving the reliability of electricity for the facility. Located in Bossangoa, the regional hospital serves as a vital healthcare center for thousands of residents in the surrounding communities. The new solar installation ensures that the hospital now benefits from a stable, clean, and sustainable power source capable of supporting its critical healthcare operations.

The installed solar plant has a capacity of 70.8 kWp with 153.6 kWh lithium Pylontech battery storage, ensuring stable and autonomous power supply. It uses 120 monocrystalline PV modules of 590 Wp, arranged in four blocks and oriented southwest at a 15° tilt, connected to 2 Fronius three-phase inverters and 3 Victron Quattro hybrid inverters.

The system includes 4 MPPT charge controllers to optimize battery charging and solar production, with a common AC distribution board supplying local loads, including an air conditioner. Electrical protections ensure safety and proper isolation throughout the system.

The maternity ward and emergency units depend heavily on consistent lighting and powered equipment. The solar system guarantees that these critical services can be delivered safely at any time, particularly during nighttime emergencies. By reducing reliance on diesel generators, the hospital can significantly lower fuel and maintenance costs. These savings can be redirected toward improving medical supplies and healthcare services.

The installation of the 70.8kWp solar system has a far-reaching impact beyond the hospital itself. The Bossangoa Regional Hospital serves a large population across Bossangoa and neighboring communities, meaning thousands of people now benefit from improved healthcare services powered by reliable energy. Through projects like this, Aptech Africa continues to play a vital role in strengthening healthcare systems across Africa by delivering reliable solar energy solutions. Electrifying healthcare facilities with renewable energy not only improves service delivery but also promotes long-term sustainability for essential public institutions.
