Aptech Africa Powers Batangafo Hospital with Sustainable Solar Energy

Aptech Africa is proud to announce the successful completion of a solar power installation at Batangafo Hospital in the Central African Republic. This solar installation was developed to guarantee 24-hour reliable electricity, reduce operational costs, and promote sustainability in healthcare delivery.

Batangafo Hospital serves as a key referral and main healthcare center for thousands of people living in the Ouham and neighboring areas. Prior to this project, the hospital experienced frequent power interruptions due to unreliable grid supply and high fuel costs for diesel generators. These power constraints significantly affected healthcare delivery, particularly in maternity wards, surgical units, and vaccine storage facilities.

Aptech Africa designed, supplied, installed and commissioned a 114kWp hybrid solar photovoltaic system on a 3- meter high primary ground structure. A total of 208 monocrystalline solar modules of 550Wp each were installed and 76 units of 4.8kWh Lithium ion batteries totaling to 364.8kWh battery bank storage were used.

The project contributes to reducing carbon emissions and operational costs, allowing hospital resources to be redirected toward essential medical supplies and patient services. Access to reliable energy not only strengthens healthcare systems but also builds resilience in remote communities, promotes gender equality in healthcare access, and supports global efforts toward achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy).

With reliable electricity now available, Batangafo Hospital can operate critical medical equipment continuously and safely. The solar system powers life-saving operations, enables the use of diagnostic tools, ensures consistent refrigeration of vaccines and medicines, and improves overall patient care. Aptech Africa remains dedicated to providing innovative solar and water solutions that empower communities, enhance livelihoods, and protect the environment across Africa
