Aptech Africa recently supplied, installed, and commissioned three solar PV systems for offices at the town hall, the sub-prefecture and the prefecture (Haut-Mbomou) of Obo in Central African Republic in a project funded by the UNDP.
The three systems are stand-alone, each comprising of four roof-mounted Soleil Power panels with a capacity of 1.28 kWp, and 19.2kWh of battery storage system with Soleil Power lead acid batteries. The system also has a Soleil Power MPPT 145/30A charge controller connected between the solar panels and the batteries designed to regulate the batteries charging process and control overloads with Soleil Power 2000VA inverter that converts the energy generated by the solar panels into a usable form of energy to power light bulbs and the office appliances.
The installed systems were designed to power all of the office IT equipment including laptops, a scanner, a printer, lights sufficiently throughout all the eight working hours.
The UNDP funded these installations as part of a project to support local governance to undertake capacity building for territorial public administration, partly through the acquisition and installation of solar system kits for the mentioned sites.
Positive social-economic and environmental benefits:
· Uninterrupted power supply to the offices as they are not connected to the national grid (ENERCA)
. Contribution to sustainable development through climate change mitigation achieved by use of clean energy from the sun rather than diesel generators that would otherwise increase the greenhouse gases.
