Aptech Africa Installs a Backup System at Infectious Diseases Institute for Mulago

AptechAfrica recently supplied and installed a 30KVA solar backup system at IDI Mulago. The backup system is composed of a 100A By-Pass switch -3phase, 125A 3-phase 4 Way Distribution Board, a battery capacity of 12KWh, and a Victron Quattro inverter of 48/10 KVA. The Solar backup system is dedicated to specified loads as support in case of a power blackout from the main utility supply.  Consequently, this backup system would prevent the cutoff of power supply to critical loads for the institution.

Infectious diseases Institute (IDI) is located in Kampala, Uganda with the purpose of strengthening health systems in Africa through research and capacity development with a strong emphasis on infectious diseases.

The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) was established in 2002 in Kampala, Uganda by the Academic Alliance for AIDS Care and Prevention in Africa, a group of infectious diseases experts from Uganda and North America, with initial support from Pfizer Inc. and other partners.  This public-private partnership aimed to provide excellent care for People Living with HIV (PLHIV) in Uganda, train healthcare workers to serve the tens of millions of PLHIV in Africa, maintain the strategic emphasis on prevention, and conduct research relevant to improving the outcome of the epidemic. In 2004, ownership of the Institute was transferred to Makerere University, and the Institute moved into its current building.

Thanks to the backup system Aptech Africa installed, IDI will have more hours of research, no power cutoffs, and more hours of training for various stakeholders.
