Aptech Africa recently commissioned a solar PV-hybrid system in Nigeria in a project funded by UNDP.
This system consists of 40kWp of roof-mounted PV generation with 102.6 kWh of lithium-ion battery storage. The system is hybrid and uses energy from both solar and diesel generator. The system has a remote monitoring system which provides information on energy generation, inverter, weather condition, loading.
The system is providing energy to the UNDP country office located in Maiduguri, Borno state, Nigeria. The office was previously using a diesel generator as the source of power since the previous existing solar system was inadequate for the office’s critical loads and the old batteries were worn out.
The new system has been installed with the goal to decrease UNDP’s carbon foot print, reduce on the high expenses of diesel, to create reliable power supply given no national grid in the area and to showcase solar hybrid solutions within the country for other projects.
