The GEED DEEBLE area is the first established national Botanic Garden in Somaliland. It is located North of Hargeisa City at a distance of 25 Km. The area harbours old Fig trees which botanically indicate the presence of groundwater in the area. The area still serves as the main water source for Hargeisa city and the surrounding communities. The two main seasonal rivers cross the garden and also meet together dividing it into three parts. Due to abundant groundwater resources, the region was selected as favourable.
Aptech installed and commissioned an electromechanical system in the area, consisting of 3 Laasdhure boreholes namely LD4, LD10 and LD11. The Laasdhure Boreholes have 37kw, 55kw and 30kw Grundfos pumps installed respectively. The 3 wells supply water to the new Geed Deeble (Somaliland) pumping station. The project also consists of a PV system and Gensets making it a hybrid system where the main priority given to PV system while diesel generators can be used during bad weather or at night. The system has a small auxillary system separate from the main pumping system for lighting purposes and managing small loads such as phone, laptop charging etc.
More than 1 million residents of Hargeisa will experience improved access to water, and the WASH sector of Hargeisa and Somaliland at large will improve. It will also reduce the costs of hiring trucks of water from poor and unprotected water sources.
